Sony Media Player 4K TV and Pricing

LAS VEGAS — If there is any singular buzzword to describe NAB Show 2013, it's 4K — also known as Ultra HD.
4K made big waves at CES 2013, but it's at NAB Show where the technology is really coming into its own.
In addition to panels and sessions on 4K and other display technologies of the future, there's tons of 4K product on the show floor.
Sony announced pricing and availability of two of its 4K Ultra HDTV sets first unveiled at CES. The XBR-55X90A (55-inch) and the XBR-65X900A (65-inch) will retail for $4,999 and $6,999, respectively, beginning April 21.
Now, $5,000 is a lot of money for a TV, but keep in mind that this is still significantly less than the$40,000 price tag on Samsung's 85-inch stunner.
Of course, the big issue with 4K is content — specifically, where is it? And, when can consumers get it? While that's the subject of much chatter at NAB Show itself, Sony is hoping to ease the content issues with its new FMP-X1 4K Media Player.
The media player isn't cheap — it will cost $699 when it becomes available this summer. The player will come bundled with 10 feature films, including The Amazing Spider-ManTaxi Driver,Total Recall (the 2012 version) and The Bridge on the River Kwai. This fall, Sony promises that it will have its own fee-based distribution service for 4K films.
What do you think of Sony's pricing on 4K TVs? Let us know in the comments.
