ORIC Website Launching Ceremony

Rector, Virtual University of Pakistan Inaugurated ORIC website

Mr. Naeem Tariq, Rector, Virtual University of Pakistan inaugurated the ORIC website on September 24, 2019. The inauguration ceremony was held at Virtual University, M.A Jinnah Campus, Lahore. Dr. Syed Abdul Majid, Advisor Academics, Dr. Faisal Tehseen Shah, Controller Examination, Mr. Ehsen Zafar Puri, Director ICT, Dr. Arshad Hussain Hashmi, Director ORIC, Dr. Malik M. Arif Rafiq, Professor, Mr. Ahmer Saeed Qazi, Director Admin, Mr. M. Farhan Sadiq, Director Campuses, Ms. Rubina Ali, GM Marketing, Dr. Syed Salman Hassan, Dy. Director ORIC, M. Javed Younas, GMIT, and Mr. Sarmad Latif, Dy. Controller Examinations attended the launching ceremony. 

Mr. NaeemTariq appreciated the entire team for their efforts for making the launch of the website possible. He said, this platform is providing opportunity for faculty members and scholars to promote their research work both nationally and internationally through publications and conference presentations. The faculty members and scholars can utilize the platform and come up with the best solutions to link their research work with current industrial and economic issues. 

Office of Research Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) was established in 2013 at the Virtual University of Pakistan in compliance with the Higher Education Commission’s directive. Since inception to date, ORIC is operating at VU as a permanent department with a mission to uplift the University as community makers and promote a knowledge-based economy. 

Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization at Virtual University is a focal point which functions as an umbrella of the University and deals with all activities pertaining to research and development, innovation and commercialization, collaborations and consultancies, startups and entrepreneurship, training seminars, workshops, symposia and conferences. ORIC seeks to highlight Virtual University as a research hub with tangible outcomes to enrich the regional economy and its culture by attracting regional industry, agricultural sector, food and social sector, public and private institutions and other stakeholders

Functions of ORIC website:

• To encourage pragmatic research in the context of Pakistan’s socio-economic needs.
• To provide technical support to faculty members for all research-related activities.
• To identify and inform the faculty members about research opportunities.
• To encourage and assist for publication of research work being conducted in the university.
• To assist faculty in acquiring funds from international and national funding agencies.
• To inculcate entrepreneurial mindset among researchers and students.
• To create awareness and help the faculty regarding Intellectual property and patent filing process.
• To arrange awareness seminars, symposia, and workshops for the training & development of faculty.
• To build University-Industry Liaison
• To develop the link of industrial problems with research done in the university.
• To resolve issues of Pakistani Industry through research and development.
• To give practical exposure and support to our startups and students.
• To commercialize research and technology in collaboration with industry.
• To bring capital ventures and investors for investment in business ideas.

ORIC website will contain information regarding research projects, research publications, citation, workshops seminar, training, list of HEC approved supervisors, list of funding bodies and list of impact factor journals. For more details, please visit http://oric.vu.edu.pk/
